February Book Club = Books are in!
We've chosen Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher for this month's book club read. Come by the library to obtain your copy today!
From Booklist
"When Clay Jenson plays the casette tapes he received in a mysterious package, he's surprised to hear the voice of dead classmate Hannah Baker. He's one of 13 people who receive Hannah's story, which details the circumstances that led to her suicide. Clay spends the rest of the day and long into the night listening to Hannah's voice and going to the locations she wants him to visit. The text alternates, sometimes quickly, between Hannah's voice (italicized) and Clay's thoughts as he listens to her words, which illuminate betrayals and secrets that demonstrate the consequences of even small actions. Hannah, herself, is not free from guilt, her own inaction having played a part in an accidental auto death and a rape."

My review:
This book might change the way you deal with friends and classmates....., November 17, 2008
This review is from: Thirteen Reasons Why (Hardcover)
Have you ever found an unexpected package on your doorstep? How exciting to get a surprise, right? Well, for Clay Jensen, this package isn't what he hoped it would be. When he opens it, he finds cassette tapes and a note. The really scary thing is that these tapes have been left for him by a dead girl, Hannah, who committed suicide just a few weeks ago. Pills, they said. But why did she kill herself? She explains who is responsible for what she has done -- in her own words on the tapes, she gives 13 reasons why -- and they all have names. Despite being horrified at what he might hear about himself and the others on the tapes, he forces himself to listen to them. Along the way, following the map included with the recordings, he finds himself both excused and also held accountable. What Clay hears that night changes him forever. Recommended!

This was an EXCELLENT book when I read a few years back. Im so happy we're doing it for book club!
(and I'll actually try to be there this time.)
DISAGREE, DISAGREE, DISAGREE! I could hardly finish this without ripping my hair out! I dont want to hear some girl make up excuses for killing herself, it was definately NOT and accident and some guy grabbing your butt is no reason to kill yourself ladies! Sorry but I ABSOLUTELY HATED IT!
Ana, I guess the one thing I took away from the book is that I hoped that whoever read this would pay more attention to their peers and maybe be kinder and gentler! You never know when a thoughtless remark will leave a lasting or devastating impression or when a compliment will lift someone up on a very dark day. Keep your eyes and ears open in the halls and around school. Be on the lookout for an opportunity to make a positive impact on someone else.
This was one of the books on my freshman book lists at my old school. A lot of my friends read and recommended it to me. I can't wait to read it.
