May Teen Book Club Book

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

by Ransom Riggs

From amazon.com:

A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

After you have read the book, please comment to share your opinion or thoughts about it.
Of note, there is slated to be a sequel released some time next year!

My Review!

3.0 out of 5 stars -Not what I was expecting but it was a quick, easy read.

Jacob sets off in search of this place after the death of his beloved grandfather. What he finds is other than what he anticipated -- his grandfather was not telling tall tales after all -- everything is exactly how he had told Jacob it was. And the children, well yes, they are indeed peculiar in that each has a special talent or power. All are watched over by the unusual Miss Peregrine. But danger is imminent and the children and their way of life in peril. Can Jacob help?

Loved the inclusion of the photographs - which are all documented and legit. Interesting blend of fantasy and history with time-bending elements and a bit of supernatural. I see there is to be a sequel.

I want to read this book also. I'm starting to become more interesting in novels like this and I think I'd enjoy it like I enjoyed The Dead House.
