The Lightning Thief -- a review by Maria Katzer

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

***** stars

Do you like books with lots of adventure? Well, The Lightning Thief has it all; Glorious battles, desperate chases, prophecies, and one very large and lonely dog. Our story begins with a field trip on which our hero encounters a fury (and if you have ever read a Greek myth, you will know what this is) disguised as his math teacher. For Percy Jackson, life starts to take a turn for the strange. He finds out that he is the son of a god (as in Greek gods) and he has to find a way to survive the summer without getting pummeled by an assortment of monsters all out for his life. He finally finds safety at a summer camp for half bloods like him. But this doesn’t last very long because someone stole Zeus’ master bolt and Percy is being blamed for its sudden disappearance. Percy must set out to find the stolen bolt to prove his innocence and to escape a huge amount of trouble. Percy’s best friend, Grover and a girl named Annabeth, who is Athena’s daughter, accompany Percy on this quest. Armed with a pen, baseball cap and a pair of shoes, these three must set out to find Zeus’ master bolt and bring it back to Olympus before the summer solstice which is in only ten days. If they don’t there will be a third world war. So, if you want to find out what happens next, you are going to have to read this excellent adventure! I really enjoyed this book because of all the action, dialogue, characters, and the great imagination the author used. Since I like this book, I am sure you will too! Read The Lightning Thief.

The Lightening Thief is the first book in the Percy Jackson series.

This is one of my favorite series I have read and I can't wait for the new book to come out.

I love this book, and I'm glad that Rick Riordan made a sequel series to this one.

Rick riordon is a great writer when it comes to books. This was by far the best book of the series because it was all new, but then after the other books were published it got repetitive.

I really liked the dialogue used between some of the characters and the few pop culture references place throughout the story. I loved the book so much I now own the whole series.
